He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Ast Sr. and Catherine Ast (Eck); and his siblings, Joe Jr., Richard, Vincent, Clem, Martin, Francis, Julius, Agnes and Josephine.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Ast (Spexarth); his sons, Jim Ast (Tina), Steve Ast (Jeanne) and Joseph Ast (Sandy); his grandchildren, Chris Ast (Amanda), Jill Malache (Diego), Jeff Ast (Karlye), Becky Taylor (Benton), Sara Efinger (Jonathan) and Grace Ast; and his great grandchildren, Wyatt, Emma, Lilly, Thea and Laney.
