He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Johnston and Ruby Johnston (Vail); his sisters, Vickie Karns and Jessie Johnston; and his nephew Steven Leonard Karns.

He is survived by: his wife Wilma Rupert; his sister Joanna Horne (Robert) of Tulsa; and his nieces, Susan Curran of Tulsa, Melinda Karns of Sand Springs, Oklahoma. and Amanda Cortez of Sand Springs, Oklahoma..
