He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Percy James and Mary Luvena Whittenburg (Brown); his wife Jan Eloise Pierce; his brother Perry Dean Whittenburg; his grandson Dale Hannah; his daughter-in-law Margaret Whittenburg; his close friend Sissy; his children, Donna Hannah (Matt) of Spavinaw, Jerry Whittenburg Jr. of Coffeyville, Kansas and Rae Jean Westervelt (Brandon) of Coffeyville, Kansas; his sisters, Rosa Marie Watts of Nowata, Barbara Stewart of Noxie and Rita Moore (Bill) of Wann, Oklahoma; his siblings-in-law, Martha Rae Lain of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma and Ted Pierce (Phyllis) of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Marsha McArthur (Doug) of Jay, Crystal Hensley (Thomas) of Oaks, Bobi Hannah (Jeff) of Spavinaw, Nicholas Westervelt (Tatum) of Coffeyville, Evan Westervelt of Coffeyville, Joel Westervelt of Coffeyville, Frank Hannah (Larinda) of Coffeyville and Bill Hoggatt of Coffeyville, Kansas; and his great grandchildren, Courtney Hensley, Sydney Hensley, Xander Bandy, Rhettleigh Westervelt, Roy Dale Hoggatt, Jessica Stapleton, Colton Reel (Stephanie), Carson Reel-Hawk and Abbygail Turner.
The family has suggested memorial contributions be made payable to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and may be left in care the chapel.
