He was predeceased by: his parent Leonard. He is survived by: his wife Darlene Bates; his children, Sherry Koger of Coffeyville, Harold Bates, Jr. of Coffeyville and Stephen Bates of Coffeyville; his grandchildren, Amber Taylor (Ryan), Christopher Bates (Jessica), Antoinette Koger and Jenna Bates; and his sister Eleanor Zych (Russell) of Florida. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren.
