He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Burns and Viva Burns (Baird); and his siblings, Betty Hamilton and Bill Burns. He is survived by: his wife Kay Burns of Cimarron; his children, Troy Burns (Pam) of Dodge City, Rhonda Nyhus (Jeff) of Olathe and Trevon Burns (Trish) of Cimarron; his grandchildren, Tyler Burns (Danae) of Auburn and Melissa McKenna (Kevin) of Augusta; his children, Miranda Shirley (Levi) of Dodge City, Ellie Decker (Jacob) of Olathe, Emma Nyhus of Olathe, Gage and Mason Burns of Cimarron; his great grandchildren, Kaedrik Silsby, Dawson and Otto Shirley; and his brothers, Albert Burns (Betty) of Cimarron, Jerry Burns (Grace) of Cimarron and Charles Burns (Vicki) of Cimarron.

Memorials are suggested to the Cimarron Church of the Nazarene in care of the funeral home.
