He was predeceased by: his parents, Lena McElroy and Ellis McElroy; and his children, Judith Renee, James Dale, David Roy and Daniel Ray McElroy.

He is survived by: his wife Sadie JoAnn; and his children, Archie L. McElroy Jr., Gayle Ann Vail, William Arthur McElroy, George Ellis McElroy and Mary L. Hayward. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
