He was predeceased by: his parents, James Petty and Ethel Petty (Butler); his wife Judith Houston; his son Shannon; and his siblings, Charles, Virgil, Robert, Chester, Maxine, Helen, JoAnn, Pauline and Wilma.

He is survived by: his grandchildren, Blair, Grant and Quentin Lester.
