He was predeceased by: his parents, Isaac Thiessen and Anna Thiessen (Neufeld); his wife Edith Evelyn VanZandt; his siblings, Jacob, Nick Thiessen, Mary Thiessen, Sara Ediger and Elizabeth Peters; and his nephew Donald Ediger.

He is survived by: his nieces and nephews, Enid Cady, Linden Thiessen, Marsha Bouse, Jan Utech, Johnnie Peters, Marlin Peters, Gaylene Peters, Glen Peters, Diane Ediger and Joetta Ediger.
