He was predeceased by: his parents, Jim Matzen and Ella Matzen (Schroeder); his siblings, Jim, Dick, Don, Jack Matzen, Helen Nighswonger, Peg Stinson and Hazel Dalbom; and his grandson Clayton Matzen.

He is survived by: his wife June P. Hancock; his sons, Sam Matzen (Sheryl), Dr. Ted Matzen and Ken Matzen; and his sisters, Pat Seimens (Jim) and Bonnie Konecny (John). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
