He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Byrd and Leila Byrd; and his sisters, Mary Evans, Ruth Wilks and Virginia Chiles.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Byrd (Phelps); his son Dwayne Byrd (Kristi); his brother Clarence Byrd (Candy); and his grandchildren, Kaysi Alpers (Chris), Lorelei, Cooper and Newt. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 12th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens (701 N 94th St, Kansas City, KS 66112).
The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Wounded Warrior Project or Disabled American Veterans instead of flowers.
