He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruby Sowell (McCreight) and Claude Paul Sowell; and his siblings, Dwayne, Gary Sowell and Bertha Bailey.

He is survived by: his sister Barbara Young; and his sons, Matthew, Paul and Dale Sowell.
