Carol Barr Obituary
Carol Sue (Hastings) Barr was born in Anthony, Kansas on June 21, 1937 to Juanita Maud (Guthrie) Hastings and Gerald Leon Hastings, residents of Wakita OK. She was the middle child of three daughters. She graduated from Wakita High School in 1955. She attended Phillips University before she married her husband, Elmer Jr Barr on December 30, 1956. They had two children, Rodney Eugene Barr born on April 6, 1958, and Debra (Barr) Slavik born on May 3, 1959.
Elmer was in the Air Force and they were stationed on Otis Air Force in Falmouth, MA, where both children were born. They eventually moved back to Wakita, OK until they were relocated to Wichita, KS where the children were raised and graduated high school. Carol was a meter maid with the Wichita Police Department, a line worker at Wescon, and finally was a Trust Account Administrator at Bank Four in Wichita.
The family attended Riverlawn Christian Church until after Elmer's death in 2006. Carol then was married to Don Tener in March of 2007 and was blessed with a step-daughter and a step-son, his wife, and two step-grandsons. Don and Carol relocated to Augusta, KS to be near her grandchildren. They were very active at Haverhill Christian Church.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Elmer Barr (2006) and Don Tener (2022); and her sisters, Peggy Jean (Hastings) Dunlap (2009) and Connie Lee (Hastings) Drisko (2014).
Carol is survived by her son, Rodney Barr and his wife Tracy; daughter, Debra (Barr) Slavik and her husband, Richard Slavik and his son Kirk; grandchildren: Jessica (Barr) Mallon (Rhett), Braxton Barr, Jovonne Barr, and Jadyn Barr; great-grandchildren, Gentry and Beau Mallon and Rosella Barr; step-son, Brent Tener and his wife, Stacy; step-daughter, Monique Tener; step-grandchildren, Mitchell and Bryson Tener; and she is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.
A visitation for Carol will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209. A funeral service will occur Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Haverhill Christian Church, 10275 SW Haverhill Rd., Augusta, KS 67010 and a graveside service will occur Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209.
