He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Birtell and Alta Birtell (Buchanan). He is survived by: his wife Carol; his children, Judy May of Burlington, Colorado, Douglas Birtell of Topeka, Greta Birtell of Duncanville, Victoria Clark of Lecompton and Rebecca Williams of Topeka; and his siblings, John Birtell of Wakarusa and Shirley Carls of Wakarusa. He is also survived by three granddaughters and three grandsons.
