It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Ethelreda Josephine Penning of Atchison, Kansas, who passed away on March 7, 2022, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Henry Scholz and Mary Scholz (Greub); her husband Leonard Penning; and her siblings, Maynard, Leonard, Henry Scholz and Rosaleen Ramsey (Scholz).

She is survived by: her children, Karen McCullough (Wayne), Louise Wells (Jay), Robert Penning (Katherine), Thomas Penning (Theresa) and Michael Penning (Karen); her sister Agnes Lohman; and her siblings-in-law, Wanda Scholz and Louis Penning (Patsy). She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Patrick's Cemetery or St. Benedict Catholic School Endowment and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.
