He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Ales and Mary Ales (Suhodlcan); his sons, James Ales, Jr. and Michael Ales; and his siblings, Anne Irvin, Mildred Ales, Betty Devoss, Frances O'Banion, Mary Belmonti, Eleanor Madderman, Thomas Ales, Edward Ales, William Ales, Charles Ales and Frank Ales.
He is survived by: his wife Darlene Ales (Freed) of Arma, KS; his children, Jennifer Hilligus (Scott) of Olathe, KS, David Ales (Kelly) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Gregory Ales (Elaine) of Arma, KS; his sister Verna Hasselman of Kansas City, MO; and his grandchildren, Captain Joshua Ales (Tamara), Alissa MacDonald (Scott), Chad Hilligus (Mark), Eric Ales, Jacob Ales (Angela), Erin Kuchar (Phil), Joel Ales and Molly Altmen (Eric). He is also survived by 13 great-grandchild.
