He was predeceased by: his parents, Otha Akers and Caroline Akers (Mills); and his siblings, Carl, Otha, Bob, Bill, Gene Akers, Elizabeth Buellmeller, Hazel Browning, Gertrude Bowser and Thelma Akers.
He is survived by: his wife Mary L Cox; his children, Laura (Dan Frerking) of Concordia, James (Kathi Akers) of Lynnwood and Carrie (Jay Mapel) of Arkansas City; and his grandchildren, Derek Myers, Leslie (JK Basye), Emily Hall, Jake, Kyle, Ashton Akers, Brenda Mapel, David Price, Holli and Grace Mapel. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established with the Central Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
