He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvin Patterson and Esther Patterson (Silks); his siblings, Donald and Erma; his granddaughters, Kali Lynn Stewart and Trisha Ann Nungesser; and his significant other Vera V. Patterson.

He is survived by: his wife Vera Vergia Lively; his children, Aletha J. Patterson of Rose Hill, KS, Joyce L. Schumacher (Robert) of Blasdell, NY and Gary M. Patterson (Sue) of Ponca City, OK; his grandchildren, Kelli Nungesser, Lance Patterson, Ty Patterson, Melanie Scholl, Amanda Papaj and Robert Schumacher, Jr.; his great grandchildren, Brandon Nungesser, Mathew Nungesser, Kylie Law, Hannah Schumacher, Robert Schumacher III, David Schumacher, Danielle Patterson, Devin Patterson, Megan Patterson, Ashlee Patterson, Adam Patterson, Abigail Papaj, Autumn Papaj, Torri Scholl and Ryan Scholl; and his great great grandchild Kaelan Saunders.

A memorial has been established with Winfield Senior Living Center.
