He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Wellman and Myrtle Belden Wellman; his stepmother JoAnn Green Wellman; his son Jesse Wellman; his brother Alan Wellman; and his cousins, Alice and Royce Mattson.
He is survived by: his former wife Nancy Steen; his sons, Michael Wellman (Susan) of Hutchinson, KS and John Wellman (Carrie) of Alden, KS; his daughter-in-law Karen Wellman of Holton, KS; his siblings, Greg Wellman of Sterling, KS and Emily Wellman of Alden, KS; his stepsiblings, Anne Browne (Charle) of Manhattan, KS, Jim Green (Amy) of Topeka, KS and Tom Green of Kansas City, KS; and his grandchildren, Lee, Ella, Emily, Abigail, Nolan, Julie and Sabrina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Sterling Public Library in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
