He was predeceased by: his parents, Noah Gerig and Elsie Mae Gerig (Ehresman); his wife Gwendolyn; his son Gregory L. Gerig; and his brother Merle Gerig.
He is survived by: his daughters, Emily Skinner (David) and Onalee Giggy (Kevin); his daughter-in-law Patricia Gerig; his sister Eloise Thorne of Arlington, Texas; and his grandchildren, Matthew Skinner (Kristi), Timothy Skinner (Andrea), Daniel Skinner (Mary), Jessica Black (Eric), Joel Gerig (Megan), Darrin Giggy and Rachelle Eisele (Zach). He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren.
