He is survived by: his wife Delores Jean Stewart Phenis; his children, Sandra Lea Bailey (Jared) of Ridgeville, IN, Chakeala Jane Saylor (Oscar), David Arnold Phenis, Jr. (Martina) of Lynn, IN, Virginia Mae Phenis (Keith Finchum) of Winchester, IN and Tammy Melinda Lovell (Brian) of Winchester, IN; his foster daughter Susan Midora Lambert of Hamilton, OH; and his siblings, Roscoe Phenis (Stella) of Lynn, IN, Marilyn Gambrel (Acie) of Lynn, IN, Ronnie Phenis (Lestra) of Portland, IN, Terry Phenis (Lori) of Winchester, IN, Danny Phenis (Diane) of Winchester, IN, Patricia Jones (Don) of Lynn, IN, Eddie Phenis (Amy) of Lynn, IN and Roberta Phenis (Bertie) of Lynn, IN.. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
