He was predeceased by: his parents, LeeRoy C. Bales and Grace Lucille Bales (Lindley); his wife Joyce Ann Rush; and his brothers, Aaron and Armond Bales.

He is survived by: his children, Gary Bales (Aracelia) of Houston, TX, Scott Bales (Lynetta), Richard Bales (Anne), Gwendolyn Jernagan and Gail Killin (Dan). He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
