He was predeceased by: his parents, Wayne Coates and Evangeline Coates (Barnard); and his sisters, Ramona Nessler, Margaret McKee and Helen Adams.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Elliott; and his children, Roc Coates of California, Robin Miranda (Mike) of California, Ronna Wooten (Rob) of California, Cindy Brubacher (Bill) of Michigan, Kris Frontcakas (Tony) of LaPorte and Karen Wolf (Jim) of LaPorte. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
