He was predeceased by: his mother Ruth Cates (Shelley). He is survived by: his father Willard Cates of Covington; his wife Linda K. Harper; his children, Ronette Lape (Johnathan) and Bryan Cates; his brother Robert Cates (Jane); his grandchildren, Leslie Cates, Alyssa Nixon, Ryne Cates, Jody Cates (Brittany), Amanda Schad (Jesse), Blayne Lape and Taylor Lape; his son Bradley Cates; and his granddaughter Lisa Cates. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
