He was predeceased by: his parents, Buren Smith and Veatha Smith (Rice); and his siblings, Guy, Wanda and Robert.

He is survived by: his wife Betty Hill; his daughters, Teresa K. DeBoise of Millville, MA and Vicki L. Smith of Lafayette; his grandchildren, Christopher Sloan and Danyel DeBoise Stapleton; and his great grandchildren, Conner and Betty Stapleton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel United Church of Christ in Hamer's memory.
