She was predeceased by: her parents, Deitrich Kessner and Mathilda Kessner (Meinken); her husband Kenneth Mertz; her daughter Bernice Gurr; her siblings, Karola Self and Helmut Kessner; and her grandson-in-law Michael Collingsworth.
She is survived by: her children, Annetta Place (Andy) of Mishawaka and John Mertz (Lucy) of Corunna; her grandchildren, Angela Reinoehl (Scott Comparato) of Carbondale, Brandon Reinoehl of Bertram, James Wineland of Sacramento, Tamara Rogers of Sacramento, Inga Burgdorf of Sacramento, Melissa Collingsworth of Auburn, David Mertz of Corunna and Jennifer Mertz (Jason Wallace) of Butler; her stepgrandchildren, Andy Place, Jr. (Nicole) of South Bend, Lindsey Downey (Ben) of South Bend, Dale Potts of Corunna and Rob Potts (Lynsie) of Corunna; and her sister Inga Seifert of Frankfort, Germany.. She is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Friday, January 17th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Young Family Funeral Home (612 N Main St, Hudson, IN 46747). A funeral service was held on Friday, January 17th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
