He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Perry Mathis and Virginia Elizabeth Ross Mathis; and his siblings, Elizabeth Jane Mathis, Ginny Orchard, Judy Wininger, Carolyn Sullivan and Robert Gene Mathis.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Walls; his children, Kimberly Jane Edwards, Kelly Ann Grannan, Kerrie Lynn Eggleston, Karen Elizabeth Johnson, Thomas Ryan Mathis and Marshall Lee Mathis; and his siblings, Clyde "Bud" Mathis, George Dale Mathis, Francis Frank Mathis, Fred Lee Mathis, Joseph Mark Mathis, Esther Jones and Marilyn Strate. He is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
