She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Eugene Matteson and Eileen Matteson (Best); her children, Josh Thomas (Maria Hopper) of Washington and Sarah Burgin (Chase) of Washington; her adoptive daughter Melissa Santos of Washington; her brother Tom Matteson; her husband Michael Thomas; and her sister Melanie Wayman. She was also cherished by eight grandchildren, many "self-adopted" grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
