He was predeceased by: his parents, Helen Berniece Shafer (Schue) and Robert Eugene Shafer; his former wife Linda Shafer; his daughter Bonnie Lyons Misener; and his granddaughters, Lyndsay Allison Sanchez (Poe) and Katie Hoffert.
He is survived by: his former wife Linda Lyons; his wife Karla J. Shafer; his children, Greg (Claudia), Herman Howard, Joshua Howard, Wonnie Shafer, Stefanie (Andrew) and Spangle; and his sister Anne Shafer. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.
