He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil L. "Stub" Merrick and Gertrude P. Merrick (Miller); his sisters, Lavonne Spiece and Barbara Underhill; and his grandson Aaron Merrick.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Merrick; his children, Rod Merrick (Robin) and Kelly Schenkel (Greg); and his grandchildren, Casey Dyson (Tyler) of Wabash, Kyle Merrick (Heidi) of Wabash, Joshua Merrick (Kaylee) of Wimberly, Brianne Haupert (Darrin) of Cutler and Adam Schenkel (Michelle) of Fishers, Indiana. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren.
