He was predeceased by: his wife Phyllis Maples; his siblings, Aurbin Maples, Chlola Maples, Freda Mullins, Truma Card and Lana Burchett; his son Mitchell K. Maples; and his grandchild Mitchell K. Maples, Jr..
He is survived by: his children, Merle K. Maples Jr. (Lisa) of Fort Wayne, Mark K. Maples of Peru, Matthew K. Maples (Amy) of Huntington, Indiana and Melissa Harrell (David) of Clinton, Tennessee. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
