He was predeceased by: his parents, Chet Lawson and Marie Lawson (Cooper); and his siblings, James, Lester, Linda and Laura.

He is survived by: his son Nicholas L. Lawson of Wabash, Indiana; his grandchildren, Magnolia M. Starr, Jillian Harris, Zoe Layne Lawson and Labhras LaDean Lawson; his great grandchild Amelia Rae Wicks; and his sister Loretta Eltzroth (Larry) of Urbana, Indiana..
