He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Anthony "Tony" Sr. and Anna Marchino Cardinal; his former wife Daisy Mae Prince; his wife Mary Armstrong Montgomery; his son Keith Cardinal; and his siblings, Bill Cardinal, Woodie Cardinal Sr., John Cardinal, Bruce Cardinal, Richard Cardinal, Dorothy Teising, Jane Trent and Maxine Weary.

He is survived by: his children, Deborah Downey of Vincennes, IN, Marcia Tippet of Zepher Hills, FL and Jack Cardinal Jr.; his grandchildren, Jordon Downey, Richie Downey, Tracy Crowley, Jason Richardville, Dawn Richardville and Shaun McCoy; and his brothers, Ed Cardinal of Casper, WY and Tony Cardinal (Lou Ann) of Lake Placid, FL..
