He was predeceased by: his wife Louisa P. McCarter; and his brother Richard McCarter. He is survived by: his close friend Sue Utt; his children, Dr. Stephanie McCarter of Point, Texas and Chris McCarter; his daughter-in-law Cindy McCarter of White Bluff, Tennessee; his son Shawn McCarter (Kimberly McCarter) of Floyds Knobs, Indiana; his daughter Monique "Mone" in The Netherlands; and his brother William McCarter of Vincennes. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
