He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert M. Cates and Bessie F. Cates (Summers); his wife Grace Elizabeth Bowman; his siblings, Willard Cates, Nixola Ervin, Belinda Kelch, Lestina Johnson and Berdinia Cates; his son-in-law Hardy Keeling; and his grandchildren, Raymond Cates and Twylia Hollis.
He is survived by: his children, Judy Keeling and Steve Cates (Deb). He is also survived by eight grandchildren; five great - grandchildren; and three great - great- grandchildren.
