She was predeceased by: her parents, Urban Johannes, and Kathryne Johannes, Sr. (Marich); her husband Richard E. Schmaltz; and her siblings, Terry Murray and Urban Johannes, Jr..
She is survived by: her daughters, Lori Epler (David) of Valparaiso and Natalie Hargrove (Joseph) of Hobart; and her grandchildren, Colin, Claire and Courtney Epler.
