He was predeceased by: his parents, Gomer Yates and Lucille Yates (Rosenberg); his wife Theda I. Yates; his daughters, Deborah Yates and Kathy Lochmer; his son-in-law Daniel Ashley; and his siblings, Albert Yates, Maxine Hutnik and Eloise Jewett.
He is survived by: his pet Orlando; and his children, Alan Yates (Ruth), Rebecca Ashley, Richard Yates, Darlene Dunning (Jeffrey), Kimberly Calhoun (William), Susan Odle (Scott), Melinda Hamilton, Christine Terlicher (Gib), Cynthia Whiteside (Timothy) and Delbert E. Yates, Jr. (Katya). He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Lakeshore PAWS, Valparaiso.
