Melvin H. Young Obituary
Melvin H. Young, 97, of Trail Creek, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Life Care Center in Michigan City. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Root Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Root Funeral Home.
Melvin was born August 25, 1920 in Waterloo, Alabama to the late Dixie and Mamie (Smith) Young. In Tyronza, Arkansas he married Atha Smith Young who is preceding him in death. Surviving are two sons, Dalton Young of Trail Creek and Theodore Young of Michigan City; daughter-in-law, Cindy Young of Michigan City; eight grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by one son William Young and his brothers and sisters. He was the retired maintenance supervisor from Fifth/3rd Bank in Michigan City. He was proud of the fact that he never missed one day of work in is life. He was a member of the Living Church of God and was a veteran of the Navy serving in WW II.
He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
