He was predeceased by: his father Russell Shanafelt; his father-in-law Leroy Skaggs; and his nephew John Shanafelt. He is survived by: his mother Emilie Shanafelt (Tague); his wife Pamela Shanafelt (Skaggs); his children, Christina Bishop (Steven) of Indianapolis, IN, David Shanafelt (Katie) of Greenwood, IN and Russ Shanafelt of Greenwood, IN; his siblings, Mark Shanafelt (Debbie), Penny Shanafelt and Beth Bullard; his mother-in-law Rosie Skaggs; and his granddaughter Madelyn Bishop. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and the apple of her Papaw.
