He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvin Eugene and Clara Bender (Miller); his siblings, Robert Bender, Gene "Chip" Bender and Dayle Ann Bender; his son Wilbur Cross; and his granddaughter Jennifer Zentz.
He is survived by: his wife Clara M. Bender of Topeka; his children, Tina Lawhorn of Topeka, Ryan Bender (Mary Ellen) of Topeka, Julie Stout of Kimmell, Charlotte Sanders (Chuck) of Port Charlotte, FL, Twila Hughes (Bob) of Nappanee and Glenda Coney of LaGrange; and his siblings, Lester Bender (Judy) of Albion, IN, Dean Bender of Goshen, IN, Rosalie Kienzler (Steve) of LaOtto, Bonnie Harlan (Tom) of Ocala, FL and Gwen Stump (Michael) of Elkhart, IN. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; and thirty great-grandchildren.
