He was predeceased by: his parents, Doyle Devon and Fern Leona Elder (Freet); his sons, Chester Elder Jr. and Michael Elder; and his siblings, Margaret Waters, Ruth Keller, Lois Drane, George and Joseph Elder.
He is survived by: his wife Sandra Elder of Syracuse; his children, Marjorie Ann Gierlowski (Michael) of Plymouth, Doris Louise Phab (Bob) of Davis Junction, IL, Fern Elizabeth Hostetler (Gordon) of Walkerton, Lori Christine Forsythe of Knox, Shelly Higginbotham (Jeff) of Syracuse, William Doyle Elder (Mary Lou) of Georgia, Kenneth Lee Elder (Becky) of Walkerton, James Gordon Elder (Debbie) of Knox, Chris Elder (Ashley) of Syracuse and Daniel Smith of Syracuse; his stepson Roger Smith of Syracuse; and his brother Dennis Elder.
