He was predeceased by: his parents, Owen D. Avery and Waneta Avery (Amsden); his stepmother Edith Avery; and his brothers, Richard, Ivan, Charles, Jimmy and David Avery.

He is survived by: his wife Carol Avery of Syracuse; his daughter Shelly Avery of Syracuse; his grandson Eli; his siblings, Sharon Lemler (Dewayne) of Nappanee, Esther Fisher of Pierceton and Fred Avery of Plymouth; and his pet Zoe Bear.
