He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Helen Hill, Vernon, Bertha Gutapfel and Raleigh; and his parents-in-law, Carolyn McClain and James.
He is survived by: his parents, Cletus Gutapfel and Patsy Gutapfel (Hill); his wife Janet McClain; his son Adam Gutapfel; his sisters, Laura Werner (Doug) and Beth Taillon of Denver, CO.; and his siblings-in-law, Judy Meyer (Kim), Joe McClain and Jay McClain. He is also survived by 11 nephews and nieces, and numerous cousins.
