He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Leonard Shelton and Wilma Fern Linn Shelton; his sons, Leonard Shelton and Jack Shelton; and his siblings, Eugene Shelton, Garnet Shelton and Evelyn Hendrix.

He is survived by: his wife Margaret Shelton; his children, David Shelton, Jerry Shelton, Carl Shelton, Roy Lee Shelton, Danny Shelton and Julia Wilson (Chris); his stepson John Fifer Jr.; and his brother Archie Shelton. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
