He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Hilgediek and Helen Phillips Hilgediek; his wife Donna Hilgediek; his siblings, Robert Hilgediek and Gwendolyn Waterman; and his granddaughter Stacy Ayers.

He is survived by: his children, Debra Ayers (Bruce) of Sullivan, Danny Hilgediek (Gaye) of Lafayette and Thomas Hilgediek (Tina) of Jasper; his grandchildren, Justin Ayers, Nicholas Hilgediek (Antonia), Samuel Hilgediek and Hannah Loga (Sam); and his great grandchildren, Makiya Ayers, Adelina "Prim" Ayers and Gabriel Hilgediek.
