It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Edward Akins of South Bend, Indiana, who passed away on July 5, 2020, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Robert and Katherine Ida Akins (Wolfe); his daughter Jeanne Olen (Mike); his brother Dick Akins; and his stepgrandson Colin Peter McCollester.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Louise Swingendorf; his children, Kacy Hertz (Paul), Ellen Akins (Steve Denker), David Akins (Lisa Ogawa), Peter Akins (Stacie Reyher) and Kari Elezi (Mentor); his granddaughter Mary; his former wife Anita McCollester; his stepchildren, Margarethe Chobanian (Michael), Frances Striz, Carole McCollester, Andrea L. McCollester and Peter N. McCollester (Debbie); and his sisters, Patricia Kruger (Owen) and Sandy Condes. He is also survived by thirteen step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.
