He was predeceased by: his parents, Hilden Tharp and Mildred Tharp (Pickerell); and his sister-in-law Joyce Tharp. He is survived by: his children, Gerald Tharp of Louisiana, Jack Tharp (Shannon) of Avon, Mindy Tharp of Seymour and Charlena Jackson of Martinsville; his grandchildren, Jonas Jackson, Travis Tharp, Sarah Stephens, Matthew Stephens, Jeremiah Jackson, Kathryn Ogura, Jacob Jackson, Steven Tharp, Michael Stephens, Justin Tharp and Austin Tharp; and his brother Dan Tharp of Plainfield. He is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church.
