He was predeceased by: his father Rev. Ruben Tunnell; his grandparents, James "Jay", Genevieve Buffin (Jenny), Harry Tunnell and Agnes Phillips; his great-grandparents, Byron, Lottie Wingate, Jessie and Effie Buffin; his uncles, Gary Wayne Buffin and Jay Buffin; his cousin Gary Jay Buffin; his uncles, Jack Tunnell and Jerry; his aunt Mary Stevens; and the mother of his children Mellissa Starrett.
He is survived by: his wife Ardonna; his children, Justus and Jessica; his stepsons, Brandon Johnson and Dustin Johnson (Minda); his mother Sharon Tunnell of Selma; and his brothers, Andrew Tunnell of Selma and Scott Tunnell (Janet) of Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, Phillips wishes were that donations be made to Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS, 66675-8516 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
