He is survived by: his wife Maria Annette Devore-Cardwell; his sons, William Alfred Cardwell III of Sellersburg and James Lee Cardwell (Brenda) of Jeffersonville; his siblings, Roger of Jeffersonville, Perry Cardwell of Jeffersonville, Betty Lou Cardwell of Jeffersonville, Riva Harvey of Underwood and Charlene Sceifers of Clarksville; and his grandchildren, James, Jesse, Johnny, Crystal and Amber.
