She was predeceased by: her parents, William H. Sturgeon and Marie E. Sturgeon; her husband John VanGilder; and her siblings, Eugene Sturgeon, Edna Chupp and Delva Scheerer.
She is survived by: her daughters, Debra Nelson of Sellersburg, Diana Cooper (Bill) of Sellersburg, Luvenia McCoy (Tim) of Jeffersonville, Romonda Welbourn (Bob) of Borden and Lori Davis (Aaron) of Salem; and her sisters, Marjorie Young of Memphis and Louise Evans of Sellersburg. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
