He was predeceased by: his parents, Estil Sandlin and Eunice Sandlin (Robbins); his son Michael Sandlin; and his siblings, Philip Sandlin and Brenda Sandlin.

He is survived by: his wife Alice Sandlin (Amick); his sons, Brady Sandlin (Debbie) of Scottsburg, Indiana and Johnny Sandlin (Holly) of Scottsburg, Indiana; his stepchildren, Chris Shields (Missy) of Lexington, Indiana, Shannon Smith of Lexington and Alisha Shields of Austin, Indiana; and his siblings, Elizabeth Sims (Chet) and Larry Sandlin (Connie). He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
